I have put together here some simple advice about looking after all types of jewellery (this applies to precious metals too!). All jewellery must be treated with care and looked after to ensure it keeps in tip-top condition; otherwise it will discolour, tarnish and possibly break.
•Avoid scratching your jewellery and putting it under undue force or strain.
•Avoid wearing it when using machinery.
•Do not spray perfume directly onto it and keep it away from strong detergents, such as bleach and chlorine, ie don’t wear it in a swimming pool/hot tub or when cleaning.
It is a good idea to gently wipe your jewellery clean with a damp cloth after each time you have worn it, as oils in the skin can discolour it, but please make sure you thoroughly dry it before storing it away, no jewellery likes damp conditions. You can also buy speciality jewellery cleaning cloths and anti-tarnish solutions for precious metals.
The best way to store your jewellery is in an air-tight plastic bag or box as this will help maintain its appearance and stop it from tarnishing.
Polymer Clay jewellery can also be cleaned with a damp cloth using warm soapy water, but please make sure it is thoroughly dried afterwards, before storing away in a box.
If you keep to these simple instructions you will prolong the life of your jewellery and keep it looking in as good as new condition.
