Craft Display Ideas (Earring displays)

As I have been searching for some inspiration on how to display my jewellery, in particular my earrings, I thought I would share with you some items that I have recently found. There are lots of manufactured display items you can buy, but I much prefer using natural materials or items that you can recyle yourself from everyday objects and then utilise them as unique display items.

Here are some of the ideas I have found which are useful for displaying any jewellery and further down for earrings.

Useful items provided by nature:

Shells, large pebbles, drift wood, slate tiles, tree branches, tree bark, pine cones, flowers, large leaves, fossils/crystals, bamboo

Useful items from around the home:

Bottles, vases, statues, trays, paper doilies, mug stands, plate stands, egg boxes, cutlery trays, shoe boxes, mini christmas trees, bowls, photo/picture frames, mirror tiles, notice boards, 2/3 tier cake stands, turning serving board, draped fabric, lace, jewellery boxes, shutters, old window frames,

Specialist items you can use:

Mannequins, jewellery busts, jewellery cases, ring trays, ring cones, earring racks, gift boxes, jewellery trees,

And as I was specifically looking for some earring displays here are a few unique ideas I found, most of which you could have a go at making yourself:

Picture Frame Earring Display by Melanie Heard

This one was made by the ladies husband from simple plywood, 1/2 ” strips of wood and floor molding.  This can hold up to 30 pairs of earrings and there are grooves in the strips of wood for the display cards to rest in.  Link to SOURCE

This earring display was seen in the streets of Rome by this Blogger.  A really unusual but effective way to show off earrings.  I would love a closer look to see how they are attached though!  Link to SOURCE  As a thought I suppose if you haven’t got much space you could try using a childs umbrella.

An old Picture frame and Chicken Wire

I’ve seen lots of people make earring displays this way, it seems to be a very popular and quite a simple method.  However, I prefer a method of displaying my earrings attached to cards, that way they don’t get mixed up (speaking from experience, when I once dropped a display of earrings!).

Hinged Cork Notice Boards

Hinged Cork Notice Boards

I love this idea of using two Cork Notice Boards with the Cork inserts taken out, painted, hinged together and then use small eye hooks down the sides and attach lines of wire across from them, so you can hang your earring cards over the wire.  This would work just as well with smaller picture frames.  You can find the Source for this: HERE

An Old painted cheese Grater!

An Old painted cheese Grater!

I am loving this idea of using an old cheese grater, painting it and suspending your earrings from it.  Very quirky!

Using a Lampshade with holes in it!

Using a Lampshade with holes in it!

I saw this on Pinterest and on a blog so I thought I would share it with you.  I like the idea of using a lampshade to hang earrings, very effective, especially when lit!  The shade does have to have holes in it though. Source: HERE

Shoji Screen Earring Display

This screen was adapted to display earrings, but could also be used to display other jewellery too.  For more information read HERE.

Using old wooden crates

Using old wine boxes

I found this via Pinterest see original link HERE.  This person used stacked upturned old wine boxes and put nails around the sides, so you can hang your earring on them.  I love the rustic look of this one.

Another photo via Pinterest, I chose this one as I liked the look of the small circular cards as being a different idea to hang your earrings together, I might try this one! Original source HERE

Another idea similar to the picture frames, but this one is using a metal vanity tray with lines of wire stretched across the frame to hang earrings.  See original source HERE

Another way of using cork boards, see how to make this HERE.  I think I am going to make this one, I’ve just ordered some A4 size cork boards, I’ve got plenty of ribbon, just need to buy some hinges.

And finally here are a few interesting jewellery card ideas for earrings:

  1. I love the umbrella and the cheese grater – very quirky! I hoard enough things, don’t know what my husband would say if he opened the wardrobe to find a cheese grater there! Bet you had fun looking these up on Pinterest. When I see other people’s packaging I always feel disappointed in mine and that I ‘could do better’ ; you could go on forever changing your designs until you are happy, couldn’t you?

    • Yes I know what you mean, I am forever changing mine, hopefully for the better each time, but I am never satisfied. I really want to sort my display out, but I want something that is quick and easy to set up and take down, looks professional, not over cluttered (mine usually is) but is also not expensive to accomplish! I keep messing about with things, recycling, buying etc but I’m still not happy. Lx

      • We’ll get there eventually – I suppose the main thing is enabling the customer to see the goods but we are obsessed with the look of our stalls! Thanks for the ideas! x

    • That is so true, but will I ever be happy with my display? We just have to realize that our displays are great, and remember we pass on how we feel about our displays to those who see them. So a change of perspective sometimes is the best move to make. Oh well, maybe a tweak here or there and be happily done.
